Educate Your Palate April 2011
10th Annual Educate Your Palate: Street Eats II, Food Trucks
April 21, 2011
This was the 10thanniversary of this signature event. This year’s event theme was “Streets Eats II, Food Trucks”. The dining service team from across campus worked together to develop a menu with unique flavors from food trucks around the country. This “green event” celebrated Earth Day at International Village, which is the FIRST college/university dining room in the United States to earn both the three star certified green restaurant distinction and leed gold status!
While entering the dining room a Northeastern Green van called “The Flour Truck” came into sight, filled with flower cupcakes! Each cupcake was decorated indiviually to be a delicious flower. Students were handed a feedback form to fill out, and if they passed in their thoughts they received one of our garden treats! Student feedback tabulated will help determine the menu items for our new food truck rolling into campus in the Fall.
The dining room servery was transformed into a 200 foot roadway, with 10 food trucks parked along the road. Caution foodies crossing! You could travel along Delicious Drive, Yummy Blvd, Spicy Court, Scrumptious Road, Savory Circle, Sweet Street, Appetizing Ave, Good Eats Pkwy, Tasty Lane, and Tempting Way. The ambience of the roadway was created with street lights, a mail box, street signs, flower stands and a black road path for student to follow while they endeavored on a mouthwatering journey.
The menus consisted of kim chee, dessert tortillas, food on a stick, bánh mì, funnel cakes, bulgogi “seoul” pork sandwich, tacos, food from down-under, strawberry shortcake sliders, not your average hot dogs, and skillet bread sandwiches. All served in easy to eat hand held containers or compostable plates; we even had food on a stick!
Street Eats II, Food Trucks was another delicious exciting journey at Northeastern University!
