Food provides the energy and nutrients you need to be healthy. Nutrients include proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals, and water.

Learning to eat nutritiously is very important and some of the keys to a healthy diet include:

  • Eating a variety of foods, including vegetables, fruits, and whole-grain products
  • Eating lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, and low-fat dairy products
  • Drinking lots of water
  • Going easy on the salt, sugar, alcohol, saturated fat, and trans fat

Saturated fats are usually fats that come from animals. Look for trans fat on the labels of processed foods, margarine, and shortenings.

There are four food groups – dairy, protein, grains, and fruits and vegetables. The recommended amounts vary depending on the age and weight of the person in question, but as a general rule, you should be eating 5 to 12 servings of fruits and vegetables, 1 to 2 servings of protein, up to 3 servings of dairy, and up to 5 servings of whole grains in a day. Don't forget that water is important for your health as well – 6 to 8 glasses per day is the recommended amount.

We attempt to provide nutrition information that is as complete as possible.  Nutritional values listed are based on standard product formulations and data from our suppliers.  Variations may occur due to the use of regional suppliers, seasonal influences, differences in product preparation at the restaurant level, recipe revisions and other factors.  This information is subject to change and will be updated periodically.
